Cybercrime
In recent years, technology has changed every aspect of our lives here in Georgia. From e-mail to e-commerce to travel reservations to online banking to health advice and other services over the web, our work and personal lives have been forever altered. Along with these advances in our quality of living, though, there has been a simultaneous increase in criminal activity targeted at these new technologies and our enjoyment of these technological benefits. From denial of service attacks that prohibit public access to certain components of the internet, virus attacks on business networks and personal computers, hackers gaining access to confidential business or financial files, or individuals using the internet to transmit child pornography or to solicit minors, criminal use of technology has increased with every advance that the general public has enjoyed. Our office has teamed with Kennesaw State University to create a Cybercrime Institute to train local prosecutors and law enforcement on how to recognize, investigate and prosecute cybercrime in local communities. Together, we can work to ensure that technology benefits Georgia rather than endangers our citizens.
