Duties & Responsibilities
Although we CURRENTLY MAY NOT HAVE an OPEN POSITION, we are accepting applications. Applications are reviewed from those candidates who have passed the LS test AND have legal secretary experience. DUTIES INCLUDE, but are not limited to: Providing secretarial support to several attorneys. Types correspondence, briefs, pleadings, forms, agreements & administrative orders from handwritten notes or dictation; files pleadings and other legal documents in court as requested; answers the telephone; responds to calls from clients, attorneys and citizens; and provides general information or transfers calls as appropriate; prepares, copies, and faxes or mails a variety of legal documents and correspondence; dockets pleadings and distributes cases as requested; maintains files for the section; maintains records on the assignments of cases; maintains records of leave balances for division personnel; enters time worked for all personnel to the computer; maintains and updates legal references for the division; makes travel arrangements for section personnel; maintains adequate inventory of office supplies; closes files and coordinates the removal of closed files; performs other duties.
Minimum Training & Experience
One year of legal secretarial experience or two years of general secretarial experience which includes a significant amount of typing. To be considered, ALL applicants MUST TAKE and pass the WRITTEN LEGAL SECT TEST & TYPING TEST that is given by the STATE PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION (SPA) in Atlanta, the test for the legal secretary job is given on a ‘walk-in’ basis the FIRST through the FOURTH TUESDAY of every month at 8:30 a.m. ONLY. To test, applicants should apply for this job online, at www.careers.ga.gov REQUISTION NUMBER SWD-95404ab any time prior to the day of testing. Applicants should bring their UserID (generated from the on-line resume creation) and a picture ID to the test session. Walk-ins are allowed for these testing times. Applicants must take a completed Dept of Law application to the test (see below). Upon an opening for a legal secretary, only those applicants that have passed the test will be considered for an interview. PREFERNCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE APPLICANTS with LEGAL SECRETARY EXPERIENCE.
