Telemarketing Complaints

The FCC has posted a Form 1088 which should be used to file Telemarketing complaints, i.e., (1) junk faxes, (2) telemarketing (including Do-Not-Call violations), and (3) other issues, such as pre-recorded telephone messages, automatic telephone dialing systems, and unsolicited commercial e-mail messages to cell phones, pagers, and other wireless telecommunications devices. Telemarketers (“Do Not Call” Registry)

Both state and federal law authorize “do not call” registries, which are lists of residential phone numbers that telemarketers are not allowed to call. You can sign up for the federal registry on the web at www.ftc.gov/donotcall, or by phone at 1.888.382.1222 or 1.866.290.4236. (If you register by phone, then be sure to call from the phone you want to register.) If you sign up with the federal registry, you will automatically be signed up for the state registry, which is administered by the Georgia Public Service Commission. Violations of the “do not call” law should be reported to the Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs at www2.state.ga.us/gaoca/brotNoCall.htm.
