Attorney General Thurbert E. Baker announced today the addition, effective July 1, 1999, of Florida to those states that grant reciprocity to Georgia handgun permit holders. Under this program, states honor the permits issued by Georgia, which reciprocates by honoring the permits issued by the other state. Legislation passed in 1996 allows Georgia to grant this privilege to persons holding permits issued by other states that recognize Georgia firearms permits.

With this addition, Georgia will now reciprocate in recognizing firearms licenses with the following states:

Florida Idaho Indiana Kentucky Michigan New Hampshire Tennessee Texas

Reciprocity begins July 1, 1999. Georgia permit holders should contact the Texas Department of Public Safety to confirm reciprocity and determine what steps they must take prior to travel in Texas
